The compound can be made via the Suzuki coupling reaction between methylamine and 2-chloropyrimidine. This reaction requires temperatures between -20° and 220°C, which can be achieved by recycling the steps in the reaction. 4,6-Dichloro-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, but insoluble in water.
