The 5-HT2 receptor is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor family that binds serotonin. It is also known as the serotonergic receptor since it regulates many functions in the brain and periphery including anxiety, depression, appetite, sleep, memory, learning, and thermoregulation. The 5-HT2C receptor has been implicated as a regulator of locomotor activity. This drug is an antagonist at 5-HT receptors. The compound exhibits potently inhibitory effects on signal transduction pathways involving cation channels or dopamine release in rats infected with infectious agents (e.g., viruses).
