2-(Diaminomethylideneamino)-N-(5-Fluoro-1,3-Benzothiazol-2-Yl)-1,3-Thiazole-4-Carboxamide (FMZ) is an antitumor agent that is classified as a cytotoxic agent. It is used to treat lung carcinoma and other solid cancers with micrometastases. FMZ has been shown to have a good safety profile and is well tolerated in humans. This drug has also been shown to increase the lifespan of mice treated with adriamycin, another anticancer drug. FMZ inhibits the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting DNA synthesis and RNA synthesis in the cell nucleus. The amide group of FMZ binds to the enzyme topoisomerase II, which regulates the breakage and rejoining of DNA strands during replication. FMZ also inhibits topoisomerase I, which is important for single strand breaks in DNA
