2,2-Difluorobenzodioxole-5-carboxylic acid (DBDC) is a reactive oxygen species (ROS) that can induce the formation of atherosclerotic plaques. DBDC induces transcription factor Sp1 and promotes the expression of genes involved in oxidative stress, inflammation, and cell adhesion. It also causes endothelial cells to uncouple from each other, which results in decreased blood flow and increased blood pressure. DBDC may be a potential drug for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases due to its ability to promote the expression of apolipoprotein A1.
