4,5-Difluoro-2-nitroaniline is a nucleophilic compound that can be used in the diagnosis of viruses. It has been shown to react with 2-chlorobenzimidazole and amines, forming a linear regression analysis. 4,5-Difluoro-2-nitroaniline is an analog of the chemical 2,4,5-trifluoroaniline and is used for the detection of herpes simplex virus. This chemical reacts with amide groups on the viral envelope proteins to form a nitroimidazole derivative that reacts with an amino group on the viral capsid protein. The resulting product can be detected by ultraviolet light at 400 nm.
