Description

4,5-Dichloroimidazole is a chelate ligand with hydrogen bonds. It is an aromatic compound that is used in the synthesis of other aromatic compounds and heterocyclic compounds. 4,5-Dichloroimidazole has been shown to have high cytotoxicity against cancer cells and has been explored as a potential anticancer drug. It also has high affinity for metal ions, such as zinc and nickel. This property makes it useful in gas sensors for detecting hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and carbon dioxide gases. The dipole moment of 4,5-Dichloroimidazole gives it the ability to react with hydroxide ions and benzoate (a chemical used in antiseptics) to form corresponding esters.
