Description

2,3-Dihydrobenzo[b]furan is the chemical compound with formula C6H5CH2OH. It is a colorless liquid with a camphoraceous odor. 2,3-Dihydrobenzo[b]furan reacts with an acidic solution to produce a white crystalline solid. The hydroxyl group on the benzene ring forms hydrogen bonds with the 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptor in the brain, which leads to changes in kinetic energy and acetylcholinesterase inhibition. The asymmetric synthesis of 2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]furan has been achieved by using chiral acid catalysts. This process optimization study has shown significant cytotoxicity and receptor binding for 2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]furan at physiological concentrations.
