Description

3,5-Dimethylisoxazole-4-carbonyl chloride is an ester that hydrolyzes in aqueous solutions by the action of water. It has been shown to have therapeutic potential for treating myasthenia gravis and other neuromuscular disorders. The mechanism of this drug's action is not fully understood, but it appears to be related to its ability to demethylate muscle acetylcholine receptors (AChRs) and prevent their deactivation by cholinesterase. 3,5-Dimethylisoxazole-4-carbonyl chloride also inhibits the demethylation of neostigmine and increases the hydrolysis of pseudoephedrine and other esters. The rate of hydrolysis is affected by changes in pH, temperature, and concentration. The kinetic parameters are dependent on these factors as well as on the concentration of enzyme present.
