4,6-Dimethoxy-2-methylpyrimidine is a product ion of the reaction between 4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine and methyl iodide. It is produced by electrospray ionization (ESI) in the presence of methane gas. The nature of this ion is a positional isomer with an ionization mass of 174.063 Da and an intensities of 1.0013e+03. This chemical compound has been observed to have four pathways: 1) direct loss of methoxide; 2) loss of methoxide followed by rearrangement; 3) loss of methoxide followed by hydrogenolysis; and 4) conversion to methyl pyridinium salt followed by hydrolysis.
