Description

Dimethylnaphthalene is an organic solvent that is used for sample preparation in the laboratory. It is a low energy, acidic compound that is found in tissues and can cause health effects when it is inhaled or swallowed. Dimethylnaphthalene has two structural isomers: 1,6-dimethylnaphthalene, which has a higher boiling point and boiling range than 1,5-dimethylnaphthalene. The reaction time of dimethylnaphthalene can be increased by increasing its concentration or by using high temperatures. Ultrasonic extraction may also be used to extract the solvent from a sample.
