Description

7,8-Dihydroxy-4-propyl-2H-chromen-2-one is an antibacterial agent that has been shown to be effective against a number of bacteria, including methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus. This compound is synthesized by the catalysis of iodomethane and methylene chloride, which react with hydroxyl group. The resulting product is then treated with a proton source to form the final product. 7,8-Dihydroxy-4-propyl-2H-chromen-2-one's mechanism of action is not well understood at this time. It may inhibit bacterial growth by binding to DNA or other cellular components.
