1-(3,4-Dichlorophenyl)-1H-pyrrole-2,5-dione is a chlorine-containing organic compound that has pesticidal properties. It is a nucleophile, which means it reacts with other compounds by donating an electron pair to form a new bond. The pesticide binds to the thiols on the surface of insect cells and inhibits the production of maleimide, which leads to death. 1-(3,4-Dichlorophenyl)-1H-pyrrole-2,5-dione is also able to react with sulfides in the environment and produce hydrogen chloride gas. This gas then reacts with water vapor in the atmosphere to form hydrochloric acid (HCl).
