Description

2,6-Dimethylterephthalic acid is a synthetic organic compound that is used for the synthesis of other compounds. It has been shown to react with azides to form 2,6-dimethylbenzeneazide, which is a useful linker in synthesizing other compounds. 2,6-Dimethylterephthalic acid has also been shown to be useful in synthesizing liquid crystalline materials and magnetic materials. The methyl groups on this molecule can act as nucleophiles or as electrophiles. The methyl groups can also coordinate with metal ions and amines by forming pi bonds. This creates a new type of organic compound called an organometallic compound.
