2,4-Dichloro-3-hydroxybenzaldehyde (2,4-DHBA) is a fluorescent molecule that can be used as a probe for energy transfer. It can be monitored by measuring changes in fluorescence intensity or the spectrum of light emitted. 2,4-DHBA has been used to monitor electron transfer reactions and to study the binding site of proteins. It is also used as a sensor for monitoring hydroxyl groups and photoinduced electron transfer.
2,4-DHBA emits blue light when excited with UV radiation and can be used as an efficient fluorescent chromophore in sensors.
