1,1-Diethoxy-3-phenylpropan-2-one is a coelenterazine analogue and a shift reagent. It has been shown to be an effective substrate for luciferase and can be used in photochemical experiments. 1,1-Diethoxy-3-phenylpropan-2-one has been used as a substitute for coelenterazine in the luciferase assay, which is a sensitive method for measuring ATP concentration. 1,1-Diethoxy-3-phenylpropan-2-one emits light at 510 nm when excited by ultraviolet radiation at 365 nm and produces a blue light emission. The bathochromic shift of this compound is due to its electron withdrawing group, which causes the fluorescence maximum to move from 480 to 510 nm. This shift also results in an increase in the quantum yield from 0.02% to 0.05%.
