2,2-Dimethyl-cyclohexanone is an organic compound that has been shown to modulate the immune system. It is a chiral molecule that can exist in two forms: enantiomers. One of these enantiomers has been shown to have a positive effect on the immune system, while the other form has a negative effect. 2,2-Dimethyl-cyclohexanone can be synthesized by reacting ethyl formate with radiation or pyrimidine compound. The hydroxyl group on the 2 position of the cyclohexanone ring reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to produce a cross-linking agent with hydroxy groups at each end of the molecule. This crosslinker can be used for experimental binding experiments to study interactions between proteins and viruses.
