3-Dimethylaminopropyl)triphenylphosphonium bromide hydrobromide is a wittig reaction product, which is used as a precursor for the synthesis of olopatadine. It can be synthesized by adding dimethylamine to toluene in the presence of phosphine and dropwise methanol or ethanol. The desired product can be isolated from the mixture by evaporating off the solvent under vacuum and recrystallizing from hot water. The hydrobromide salt has two crystalline forms: one with a monoclinic crystal system and another with a tetragonal crystal system.
