Description :
2,6-Diacetoxynaphthalene is an organic compound that is used as a catalyst in the production of dyes. It is mainly used as a solid catalyst for the production of p-hydroxybenzoic acid from naphthalene. 2,6-Diacetoxynaphthalene reacts with hydrogen fluoride to form hydrogen and acetic acid. The reaction can be summarized by the following equation:
2,6-diacetoxynaphthalene + 3H+ + HF → H2 + CH3COOH
The viscosity of 2,6-diacetoxynaphthalene increases with temperature. Molecular modeling has shown that during this reaction, the hydroxyl group moves to form a new bond with the carbon atom adjacent to it and creates a new bond between the two carbon atoms at the other end of the molecule.
