3,5-Diamino-2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonic acid (DTMS) is an aromatic hydrocarbon that has been found in the environment. DTMS is used as a chlorine scavenger in water treatment plants and wastewater treatment facilities to remove chlorinated organics from the water. It has been shown to be a ligand for uranium. DTMS reacts with cyanuric acid to form 3,5-dichloro-2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonyl chloride (CAS No. 52834-57-1). DTMS also exhibits affinity for metal ions such as copper and nickel.
