Description :
4,5-Diiodo-2-methylimidazole is an acidic reagent that is used to prepare imidazole derivatives and yields anisole as a byproduct. The compound interacts with isatin in the presence of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid to form linearity. Single crystal x-ray analysis has been used to study the interaction of 4,5-diiodo-2-methylimidazole with ionic compounds and transition metal ions.
4,5-Diiodo-2-methylimidazole can be used for the synthesis of pyrazole derivatives. It is also used in electrolysis reactions involving copper (II) ions and transition metal ions.
