Description

(S)-N-(2,5-Dioxo-tetrahydro-furan-3-yl)-acetamide is a naturally occurring amino acid derivative that is structurally similar to aspartic acid. It has been shown to have catalytic activity in the activation of cyanate ions, which can be used in chemical synthesis. (S)-N-(2,5-Dioxo-tetrahydro-furan-3-yl)-acetamide also has prebiotic properties and can promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut. This compound constitutes nucleophilic amide group and participates in catalysis reactions by attacking carbonyl groups with its amino group. Crystalline forms of (S)-N-(2,5-Dioxo-tetrahydro-furan-3-yl)-acetamide are covalently bonded to a c terminal carboxylic acid moiety.
