When synthesized with nitrate ions, impurities such as ethylbenzene, acetophenone, and propylene oxide may be formed. 2,3-Dihydro-6-methylthieno[2,3-c]furan is an analog of 2,5-dimethylthiophene and is used as a solvent in organic chemistry.
