It is a chiral molecule with a stereoselectivity of 100% ee. 1,1-DNE has been used as a pesticide and an alkylating agent in organic synthesis. The chloride group in 1,1-DNE reacts with hydroxy groups to form chlorohydrins. The chlorohydrins can be hydrolyzed in deionized water to release hydrogen chloride.
