4-(3,5-Dibromo-2-pyridylazo)-N-ethyl-N-(3-sulfo-propyl)aniline sodium salt monohydrate is a reagent used in clinical chemistry. It is an absorbent that has been used to measure the concentration of copper ions. 4-(3,5-Dibromo-2-pyridylazo)-N-ethyl-N-(3-sulfo-propyl)aniline sodium salt monohydrate absorbs light at a wavelength of 632 nm when it is mixed with copper ions in solution. The intensity of this absorption can be measured using a spectrophotometer and compared to the intensity of the light absorbed by a blank sample (i.e., pure water). This technique can be used to measure the concentration of copper ions in solution.
