1-Dodecene is a glycol ether that is used as a solvent in the alkylation of benzene with hydrogen fluoride to form phenol. 1-Dodecene has been shown to react with copper chloride in the presence of a phase transition temperature and can be used as a model system for this reaction. It also reacts with sodium dodecyl sulfate to form an odorant binding, which is selective for ethylbenzene over other aromatic compounds. 1-Dodecene has been shown to reduce viscosity and hydroformylate metal chelates. The reaction solution will contain catalyst such as nickel or palladium.
