2-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl)-5-hydroxy-6,7-dimethoxy-4H-chromen-4-one (2DMC) is an inhibitor of the oroxylum indicum lectin. It has an inhibitory effect on cancer cells in vitro and on infectious diseases such as HIV and HCV. 2DMC also has a protective effect against inflammatory diseases such as colitis and arthritis. 2DMC binds to the mitochondrial membrane potential in cells, which leads to cell death. In addition, 2DMC inhibits acetate extract from soybean lipoxygenase, which is a key enzyme for the production of proinflammatory cytokines.
