Description :5,5-Dimethyl-3-(phenylamino)cyclohex-2-en-1-one is a synthetic compound that belongs to the class of isatins. It is a product of the reaction between methylene chloride and phenyl isothiocyanate with tetrahydrofuran as catalyst. The crystal structure of this compound has been determined in both the acetal and ethyl cyanoacetate forms. 5,5-Dimethyl-3-(phenylamino)cyclohex-2-en-1-one reacts with oxygen at high temperatures to form 5,5'-dimethylisatin. This compound has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties and may be useful in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.
