Description :
(R,R)-3,4-Dihydroxytetrahydrofuran is a carbon compound with the chemical formula C4H8O2. It is a tetritol and is formed by the elimination of two water molecules from two molecules of glycerol. The (R,R)-form has an asymmetric carbon atom that can be analyzed through an argon gas-based technique called high-temperature gas chromatography. The analytical results will show the reaction products of this elimination process and the temperatures at which they are formed. This compound has been shown to react with alditol under dehydration conditions to form alpha-hydroxylated ketones, which are often used in chemical structures for intramolecular reactions.
