1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3-26,23-lactone is an analog of vitamin D3. It is a nucleophilic agent that can form covalent bonds with the side chain of amino acids in proteins. This analog has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis and induce apoptosis in prostate cancer cells by allylation and cleavage reactions. 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3-26,23-lactone also inhibits cholesterol synthesis and collagen production. Thus, it may be used as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of prostate cancer.
