2,2-Dimethyl-4-pentenal is a synthetic compound that is used as a stabilizer in the production of hydroquinone. 2,2-Dimethyl-4-pentenal is produced by catalytic hydrogenation of 4-pentynoic acid and acetaldehyde. A quadrupole mass spectrometer was used to confirm the structure of 2,2-dimethyl-4-pentenal. It has been shown that this chemical can be used to synthesize hirsutene, an enolate, and an oxygenated skeleton. This chemical also reacts with molybdenum to form a cyclopentenone.
