Description

Didecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDAC) is a quaternary ammonium compound that is used as a disinfectant. DDAC is effective against bacteria and fungi, and is commonly used in hospitals and other healthcare facilities to sterilize surfaces. This compound has been shown to have a protective effect on the skin, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. DDAC also has an inhibitory effect on the production of reactive oxygen species by neutrophils, which may contribute to its antimicrobial activity. DDAC can be prepared in water by adding p-hydroxybenzoic acid and an analytical grade of ammonium chloride with benzalkonium chloride at concentrations of 0.1% and 0.2%. The phase transition temperature for this compound is -15°C.
