Description :
2,3-Dimethyloctane is a reaction intermediate in the production of biofuels. It is a major component of octane, which is used as a gasoline additive to increase the octane rating and reduce engine knocking. 2,3-Dimethyloctane is an isomer of octane and has a linear structure. It can be synthesized from fatty acids and alcohols by way of hydroformylation reactions. The product can be purified through chromatography or distillation. 2,3-Dimethyloctane has been shown to have high melting points and reactivity with hydrogen gas.
