Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane has been shown to be less toxic than other solvents, such as pergolide mesylate, and can be used for the removal of fatty acids from wastewater by adsorption on activated carbon. The process involves the formation of decamethylcyclopentasiloxane-fatty acid complexes at the surface of activated carbon particles. Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane does not cause chronic exposure or emit particles when subjected to high temperatures.
