Description

Dechlorane 602 is a chlorinated diphenyl ether that has been used as a flame retardant and as an insecticide. It is a chemical compound that has low bioavailability and thus, can be difficult to detect in the body. Dechlorane 602 is typically detected in human serum by using a chemical ionization analytical method. It has been shown to be metabolized by humans through the reaction of two different metabolites: one formed through hydrolysis and another formed through oxidation. Dechlorane 602 also reacts with fatty acids in the liver, forming new compounds that are then excreted into urine and feces. The metabolism of this compound is affected by age and sex, with older animals metabolizing more slowly than younger animals.
