• Description: (-)-3-Demethylcolchicine is a natural compound, which is an analog of demecolcine. It has been shown to be toxic to cancer cells in vitro and has been used in the treatment of colon cancer. (-)-3-Demethylcolchicine appears to inhibit the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors and inhibits the proliferation of hl-60 cells in culture. (-)-3-Demethylcolchicine also has hemolytic activity, which may be due to its ability to bind to red blood cells.
