2,4-Dichlorobenzyl chloride is a triazolium compound that is synthesized by the chlorination of benzyl chloride. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on cancer cells in vitro. The mechanism of action is thought to be due to inhibition of DNA synthesis and cell division. 2,4-Dichlorobenzyl chloride inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to protocatechuic acid and benzoate. It also has anti-fungal properties and can be used clinically for fungal infections.
