Description

3,5-Dimethoxythiophenol is a chiral molecule that is used as a solvent in organic syntheses. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, with a characteristic herringbone pattern. It has been shown to have pharmacological properties in animals and humans and is used for the treatment of connective tissue diseases. 3,5-Dimethoxythiophenol has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis, which may be due to its ability to form covalent bonds with amine groups or carbonyl groups on proteins. This reagent has also been shown to reversibly block DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes.
