4-Dimethylamino-2,2-diphenyl valeric acid (DDAVP) is a synthetic form of vasopressin that has been used to treat conditions such as urinary incontinence and bedwetting. It has also been used to treat hemorrhagic diathesis and adrenal insufficiency. DDAVP is a conjugate of arginine vasopressin and a dimethylamino group at the 4 position on the phenyl ring. This drug is detectable in pharmacokinetic assays by reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection or monitored by fluorescent immunoassays. The majority of DDAVP is excreted in the urine where it is hydrolyzed to arginine vasopressin. A small amount may be excreted in bile or converted to its metabolites, which can be detected using hexane extraction followed by thin layer chromatography with fluorescence detection or monitored by
