Description

3,3-Dimethylglutaric acid is an organic compound that is the product of cationic polymerization. It is a malonic acid derivative, meaning it contains a carboxyl group and two hydroxyl groups. 3,3-Dimethylglutaric acid has been shown to be resistant against many chemical reactions and can be used as a catalyst for the synthesis of high molecular weight polymers. The molecular structure of this compound was determined using X-ray crystallography and found to be composed of alternating methylene (CH2) and carbonate (CO) groups. This compound also inhibits methyltransferase enzymes in human liver cells, which are responsible for the production of cholesterol.
