Distearyl thiodipropionate is a cationic polymerization agent that is used in analytical chemistry as a reagent for the quantitative determination of fatty acids. Distearyl thiodipropionate is also used to produce polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) films and fibers. It has been shown that distearyl thiodipropionate can be used as a model system for studying transfer reactions when combined with water vapor, which may be useful in pharmaceutical preparations and hydroxyl group analysis. Distearyl thiodipropionate has been shown to have high resistance against boron nitride, making it an excellent candidate for use in high-temperature environments.
