Dexpanthenol is a natural vitamin B5 compound that is used to treat bowel disease and other metabolic disorders. Dexpanthenol is also known as pantothenic acid, which can be synthesized by the body from pantothenate. It has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect on certain solid tumours in vitro and in experimental models, but it does not show any significant antitumour activity. Dexpanthenol has been shown to increase energy metabolism in animals by stimulating the breakdown of carbohydrates and fats. This compound may also inhibit the production of dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) through the downregulation of gsh-px activities.
