1-Decyne is a simple molecule that is used in the synthesis of polymers. It has been extensively studied as a model system for metathesis reactions, which are important in organic chemistry. 1-Decyne can be used to create polyesters and polyamides. 1-Decyne reacts with sodium carbonate to form ethylene diamine and glycol ethers, which can be reacted with fatty acid to form an insoluble polymer. The reaction mechanism of this chemical is not well understood, but it is believed that it proceeds by way of a ring-opening metathesis reaction. The nmr spectra of 1-decyne show that it contains nitrogen atoms at positions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 on the molecule.
