Description

Diethyl bis(hydroxymethyl)malonate is a bioconjugate that can be used as a nucleophile in synthetic chemistry. It has been used to synthesize ethylene diamine, which is an important raw material for the production of nylon. Diethyl bis(hydroxymethyl)malonate can also be used in the synthesis of malonic acid, which is an important chemical intermediate. The systematic name for this compound is diethyl (hydroxymethyl)malonate. Diethyl bis(hydroxymethyl)malonate has two structural isomers: cis and trans. The cis-isomer has a higher affinity for binder molecules than the trans-isomer does, so it may be advantageous to use the cis-isomer in binding applications.
