1,3-Di-isoPropylthiourea is an organic compound that can be used as a corrosion inhibitor. It has a high UV absorption and can be used to absorb radiation from the sun. The FTIR spectroscopy of 1,3-di-isoPropylthiourea shows a band at 3200 cm-1 and 1620 cm-1.
1,3-di-isoPropylthiourea has been shown to react with silver ions in solution and form the product 1,3-di(2'-hydroxypropyl)thiourea. This reaction is temperature dependent and increases with increasing concentrations of silver ions. This compound also has the ability to adsorb on metal surfaces such as aluminum or steel. When heated, it decomposes into hydrogen sulfide gas and sulfur dioxide gas.
