2-Dimethylamino methyl cyclohexanone is a colorless liquid with a strong, acrid odor. It has industrial applications and can be used in the synthesis of unsaturated ketones. 2-Dimethylamino methyl cyclohexanone is metabolized by human liver microsomes to dimethylamine, carbon dioxide, and acetone. It also reacts with magnesium to form a Grignard reagent and with organic solvents to form carboxylic acids. The reaction yield of 2-Dimethylamino methyl cyclohexanone is acidic at pH 6.5, but becomes basic at pH 8.0.
2-Dimethylamino methyl cyclohexanone can be used in the synthesis of unsaturated ketones as an alternative to alkyl lithium reagents or Grignard reagents that require more hazardous conditions for their use.br>
