Diamylamine is a white crystalline solid that can be obtained by reacting trifluoroacetic acid with zirconium oxide and hydrochloric acid. It is used to manufacture fatty acids, metal hydroxides, and amines. Diamylamine reacts with water vapor to form hydroxyl ions and hydrogen gas. The reaction mechanism for diamylamine is the same as that of ethylene diamine. Diamylamine also reacts with sodium carbonate to produce hydroxyl group and carbon disulphide. Ammonia is produced from the reaction between diamylamine and glycoside derivatives or amines.
