Dibutyl oxalate is a glycol ether that is used as an organic solvent. It has high chemical stability, low toxicity, and a boiling point of about 170°C. Dibutyl oxalate is used as a catalyst in the production of hydrogen fluoride from hydrofluoric acid. This process can be optimized by adding a solid catalyst to the reaction mixture. Dibutyl oxalate is also an experimental model for metabolic disorders and can be used to investigate the effect of different compounds on hydrogen fluoride production.
