Description

Dipropylmalonic acid is a low-energy molecule that belongs to the class of amides. It is an activated form of malonic acid and has a hydroxy group, which can be reduced to an alcohol or oxidized to a carboxylic acid. Dipropylmalonic acid has been shown to react with sodium hydroxide solution to form dipropylmalonate, which can be converted into propylene glycol and other molecules. The linear model for this molecule predicts that it will have hydrogen bonding interactions with water molecules and a hydroxide ion. This compound also has the potential for interaction with nitro groups, as well as aromatic hydrocarbons.
