Description :
Diethoxy-1,1,2,2-tetramethyldisilane is a brominating agent that can be used to convert aryl halides into bromides. Bromination occurs by the addition of diethoxy-1,1,2,2-tetramethyldisilane to an aryl halide in the presence of palladium as catalyst. The reaction can be performed in high yields and with high selectivity for the desired products. Diethoxy-1,1,2,2-tetramethyldisilane hydrolyzes under basic conditions to produce diethoxymethanol and hydrogen gas.
