This binding leads to activation of TLR4 and downstream signaling pathways, which results in the induction of tumor cell apoptosis. In addition, 2,3-dimethylmaleic anhydride has been shown to bind to hydrophobic pockets in cellular nuclei and may be used as a transfection agent for gene therapy.
